Getting to Uffizi

The Uffizi Gallery Italy is located in central Florence, right beside the Arno River and just a few steps from the Ponte Vecchio. Its formal address is:

It is part of the pedestrian-only zone and sits between Piazza della Signoria and the river. Most of Florence’s key landmarks are within walking distance, making it easily accessible on foot.

Walking to the Uffizi

The simplest way to reach the Florence Uffizi Gallery is by walking. If you’re staying in or near the city center, walking is often faster than using public transport due to Florence’s narrow streets and limited vehicle access.

Walking times from major landmarks:

• From Florence Cathedral (Duomo): 7 minutes
• From Santa Croce Basilica: 6 minutes
• From Ponte Vecchio: 2 minutes
• From Piazza della Repubblica: 5 minutes

Use a map of Uffizi Gallery or a city walking map to find the best route. If you’re using a digital Uffizi map Florence or navigation app, search “Galleria degli Uffizi.”

Arriving by Train

If you’re coming from outside Florence, you’ll likely arrive at Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN), the city’s main train station.

• Distance to the Uffizi: about 1.5 km
• Walking time: 15 minutes through the historic center
• Taxi: Available outside the station; expect a 10-minute ride depending on traffic

If you're carrying luggage or arriving with limited time, taking a taxi or city bus from the station to the Uffizi is convenient.

Taking the Bus

Florence’s bus system, operated by ATAF, offers several routes that stop near the Uffizi Gallery.

• Closest stops: “Galleria degli Uffizi” or “Piazza della Signoria”
• Best lines: C1, C2, C3, and D — designed to navigate Florence’s historic center
• Tickets: Purchase in advance from tobacco shops, newsstands, or ticket machines

Because the Uffizi art gallery sits in a limited-traffic zone, bus routes run nearby but not directly up to the gallery entrance.

Taxi or Rideshare

Taxis are available at official taxi ranks or via the “AppTaxi” and “Free Now” apps. Taxis can drop passengers off at Piazza della Signoria, a short walk from the Uffizi.

Rideshare services such as Uber are not currently available in Florence, but taxi apps serve a similar function.

Driving and Parking

Driving in Florence is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. The Uffizi Gallery is located inside the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato), where only authorized vehicles may enter. Unauthorized entry can result in automatic fines.

If you are driving:

• Use public garages outside the ZTL, such as Garage Porta al Prato or Garage Michelangelo
• The closest option is Garage dei Tintori (Via dei Tintori 35r), about a 6-minute walk from the gallery
